The use of any of the components of Brahmi are subjected to GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE. If you use it in any of your projects we would be pleased to hear from you. If the project is commercial, please ask. We promise you will not be disappointed! :-)

System requirements: Brahmi is best run with Java 1.4

For those who want to try out

To install Brahmi here are few simple steps one needs to follow. These components can be downloaded from the links given below.

1. Download BrahmiKannadaIM.jar - This is the Input Method. Include this jar file in your class when you run your Java2 Applets and Applications.

2. Download Kannada OpenType Fonts Mallige and Kedage - These are the OpenType font for Kannada. Copy this file into your [JAVA_HOME]/jre/lib/fonts directory and optionally, if you are running on Windows, copy it to [WIN_DIR]\Fonts directory.

3. Download font.properties - These are font.properties for Linux and Windows. Backup the existing [JAVA_HOME]/jre/lib/font.properties file and replace it with any of the following before running your Java2 programs
3a. font.properties.iisc.linux1.0 & font.properties.iisc.windows1.0 - Contains entries for Mallige.ttf and Kedage.ttf for Linux and Windows platforms respectively.
3b. font.properties.iisc.linux2.0 & font.properties.iisc.windows2.0 - Contains entries for the following Microsoft Windows XP OpenType fonts :

Devanagari: Mangal.ttf
Kannada : Tunga.ttf
Tamil : Latha.ttf
Telugu : Gautami.ttf
Gurumukhi : Raavi.ttf
Gujarathi : Shruti.ttf

If you are interested in running all the above components with an example Word Processor, download and run Brahmi.jar.

Just one single step to see Brahmi working!!!

If you don't understand or care about what is written above but interested in trying out Brahmi, just download and run the Brahmi.jar application. It automatically detects the missing resources and installs them on to your computer.
